Taste Test Sketches

I’m currently writing and performing on a house sketch team at iO West called Taste Test. We do a show every month, and below are some clips of sketches I wrote and performed in. Enjoy!

“Oppie’s Friend, Gene” Episode 6

A few years ago in college, some friends and I made a TV show. It was called Oppie’s Friend, Gene. Although it lives on online, for a while it was an actual TV show as well, broadcasted on campus television. Here online finally is the 6th episode, titled “A Cold and Mysterious Humour.” I’m really amazed at what we were able to accomplish — both in terms of writing and production quality — for a group of college kids. You can watch the recent episode below, and catch up on the rest of them here.

New Low

Here’s a clip from New Low, a hilarious film by my buddy Adam Bowers. He shot it in the summer of 2008, it screened at Sundance in 2010, and now it’s set to be released. For more info, check out the film’s website. In this scene, Bowers and I share some crass banter about a mutual lady friend.

Fair warning: this clip has some pretty adult language in it.

Turning the Page

I worked as a CBS page for about a year (October 2010 through October 2011), and now that I’ve been officially hired in a new job, my page days are over. So as a farewell to my friends in the page program I made this video, which includes me trying to play piano and sing, which I can hardly do one at a time, let alone together. If you aren’t a page, some of the references may be a little confusing. But here it is anyway.

I will sorely miss being a page, and I will look back fondly on my time in the red blazer. I included some pictures and another video after the jump.

Sleep Paralysis Caused By An Insecure Demon

Another special Halloween treat: a video sketch by the very talented Ryan Moulton, starring me and the hilarious Jamie Petitto. I play a guy being haunted by an emotionally fragile demon. Enjoy!

Oppie’s Friend Gene: Episode 5 – The Other Side

In 2009 some friends and I made a TV show while we were living in Florida called Oppie’s Friend, Gene. Created by Filup Molina, starring Cory Draper, JC Currais, Jennifer Francis, and Ryan Moulton, and co-written and produced by yours truly, the show chronicles the friendship of two buddies in their first year of college. We ended up airing 6 episodes on local TV, but we’ve only posted the first 4 episodes online.

But now, after a two-year hiatus — during which we moved to LA, worked normal jobs to get settled here, pursued other projects, tracked down the old video files, and updated the later episodes — I’m stoked to be able to post Oppie’s Friend Gene: Episode 5 – The Other Side. It’s the series’ Halloween episode, so if you got some free time and you’re in the holiday spirit, check it out.

“Community” Spec Video

Last Sunday was the live reading of my Community spec script, titled “Advanced Physics of Tolkien.” It was a fun night: all the actors did a fantastic job embodying the characters and bringing the script to life, and there was a great turnout. The audience seemed to really enjoy the jokes and the story, and I got some great feedback from them. While I continue to tweak the script, I put together a highlight reel from the night:

Thanks to Shaun Parker (who did a great job as “Chang”) for his kind words in the video. And thank you to everyone for your support! If you know any industry folk who are looking for a good spec script, please let me know!

True Story: The Blazer

Here is the video of my performance at the True Story: Risky Business event last Thursday. My friends may recognize the story about some risky behavior from my past… though the names have been changed. Thank you to Debbie Friedman for being such a great host, and to the audience for being so receptive. And make sure to catch future True Story events in September!

Steve Jobs vs. TSF

A video for the show “TSF Presents: iGasm,” a mock Apple keynote event at UF for which I was the Video Director and lead actor (Steve Jobs).

Tebow’s Concussion Check-up

A live performance by TSF Sketch, the sketch team I founded at UF. Featuring me and Brad Berghof.
